Rodger Stewart, with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado, has over 30 years’ experience in the medical device industry since starting with COBE Cardiovascular in 1977 and most recently completed 18 months as CEO of a venture backed medical device startup in Israel.  Over his career he has held positions of increasing responsibility in engineering, marketing, sales, and business development.  Mr. Stewart has been awarded six US patents and is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Colorado.  In the last 10 years he has held the positions of President and CEO for UltraShape, Inc., CEO of Carbomedics, Inc., President of Sorin Group North America, and President and CEO of COBE Cardiovascular, Inc.; several of them concurrently.  Mr. Stewart retired in July of 2008 and has been focusing his efforts on giving back to the community.  He is on the Board of Directors for ColoradoFIRST, a Colorado 501(c)(3) focusing on STEM development in grades K-12, since June 2009.  Mr. Stewart joined the Board of Directors for EXPAND Beyond in July 2010 and has been a volunteer boat driver for EXPAND since June 2009.

Jim Ziegler, Founder

After undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado Jim initiated post graduate studies at the University of Denver.  In 1958 he joined Union Carbide Corporation in the product marketing division beginning in Chicago, moving to Flint Michigan, Detroit Michigan and on to New York City where he was responsible for OEM contacts from Vermont to Florida, and West to Ohio.  Jim launched opened Rental City, Inc. in Boulder, CO on June 9, 1969 eventually operating three stores thru 2001.  He established Medco Supply in June 1981 and operated thru 1992.  Jim is a certified Instructor for National Sport Disabled Center in Winter Park since 1978 and volunteer director of the Sit Ski Program for four years.  Jim currently continues as a ski instructor for the NSCD.

Bill Hayes, Co-Founder and Secretary/Treasurer

Bill Hayes has over 35 years’ experience in the printing business, starting with Boulder Printing in 1975.  After high school he joined the Army and spent two years in Vietnam.  He started Hayes Printing Service in 1983 in Boulder, Colorado and purchased the assets of Estey Printing in 1998.  He combined the two companies under his corporation, Hayes Services, Inc. and still runs Estey Printing today.  He started volunteering with the adaptive water ski program in 1985 with founder Jim Ziegler.  Mr. Hayes along with Jim Ziegler and Gary Aboussie started EXPAND Beyond, Inc., a Colorado 501(c)(3) in April 2007 to purchase needed supplies and equipment for the City of Boulder’s EXPAND water ski program.  Bill Hayes is still a boat driver for the adaptive water ski program.

Paul DiMarchi

Paul DiMarchi was born in New York City, grew up in New Jersey, and was educated at the University of Minnesota.  He spent time in California before moving to Boulder in 1981.  Paul has nearly 40 years of progressively responsible management experience, most recently as a consultant and search practitioner for a multitude of industries and clients. His firm, DiMarchi Partners, has been serving corporate clients locally and nationally since 1982.  He also has recent experience owning and profitably operating (as absentee owner) a specialty motorcycle dealership, and participated in the growth of one of the nation’s fastest growing professional service firms.  Paul enjoyed an earlier career in apparel retailing, opening dozens of facilities and managing hundreds of employees in stores throughout California and the Midwest.  Further, Paul is responsible for the successful creation and ongoing management of a real estate development and property management company, with commercial properties owned and managed in Boulder and Loveland.

As a dedicated and involved member of the Boulder and Colorado community, Paul has served, or is currently serving, on the Board of Directors for:

Greg Singer

Greg has lived in the area since 1974 when he moved down from Fargo, ND. He attended school in the area and served in the Army following High School. Once he was discharged from military service Greg went back to school and earned an ASS in Electronics Technology and worked for StorageTek/Sun Microsystems until being laid off. He now works for Frontier Airlines as a Technical Writer. Greg has been involved with the Expand Adaptive Waterskiing program since 2000, first as a participant, and when he realized he could be more useful, began volunteering.

Topher Downham

Topher, an outdoor enthusiast since his first backcountry camping trip at age 6, has promoted outdoor recreation his whole life. After becoming a C6-7 quadriplegic in 1995 by breaking his neck in a shallow water diving accident, Topher finished his BS degree in International Business and Marketing with a minor in Scandinavian Studies at CU-Boulder. He then redirected his energies towards getting himself and other people with disabilities outside and into nature. He co-wrote the Boulder Area Accessible Trails and Natural Sites guidebook published in 1998, helping people to locate and use disabled accessible trails. He has worked at City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks as an Outreach Coordinator since 2001, continuing to promote outdoor recreation and preservation of flora and fauna. He is a big fan of 4-wheeled downhill mountain biking, handcycle touring, and downhill skiing. Most recently his passion is for water sports such as wakeboarding, kayaking, and sailing.
